Seven years ago today, at 3:08 am, after 19 hours of intense labor, Joseph Lee Jones was born. He weighed 6lbs 14oz, and was 21inches long. He was a skinny little chicken (not much has changed!) and he brought me the most intense euphoria I'd ever felt. He made me a mommy, and I was forever changed.
Joey is the type of kid that everyone adores. He is smart, funny, sensitive, caring and he is all around the sweetest thing. He genuinely cares about people's feelings, he always offers to help. He is a wonderful human being. I adore this kid so much.
Joey's birthday celebrations started last night after Jake's party wrapped up. Since the family was here, he got to open some of his gifts early. He opened some great new summer outfits, the 2nd and 3rd Diary of A Wimpy Kid books, The complete Chronicles of Narnia series, the new Battleship, a Ben 10 lego set, and from mommy and daddy, a new Ben 10 Alien Force Wii game.
Joey's party is on Friday, and he has decided to have a big sleepover party for a few of his friends instead of a big family party...he is super excited. It's his first sleepover and I'm going all out, of course, to make it an awesome Ben 10 sleepover.
I'm going to be hanging poms from the ceiling again, this time in green and black (Ben 10 colors) and his friends are going to chow down on Pizza and treats, and play games etc...I imagine there will be chaos and boys staying up until all hours of the night, and I cannot wait. I LOVED sleepovers when I was his age, they were always the most fun...secrets get shared, hilarity usually ensues, and of course you make lifetime bonds in those wee hours of the morning. This is such an exciting time in Joey's life, and ours too...I love getting to experience all those fun Elementary School things again, this time through my son. It makes me so happy.
This morning was the first morning in a long time that Joey didn't get up right when I did, so I had the rare treat of waking him up with a smooch and a Happy Birthday whispered in his ear. He grinned when he realized it was his day, and jumped right out of bed. His birthday breakfast choice was a gluten-free egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, which I stuck his 7 candle in. :-)
Later on in the day we got to bring treats into Joey's class to share with his friends, they of course love any excuse when schoolwork is stopped and they get to eat sweets!
After they finished their treats, they all gathered on the circle carpet to sing Joey the Birthday Song and Joey got to participate in something he's been waiting to do allllll year. Bang the Birthday Drum.
His teacher told me today that he's been bummed all year as he watched all his friends turn 7 before him because they got to beat the dang drum. LOL. He was so happy about this drum!
Later on we took Joey out to one of our favorite restaurant's and he got to eat pizza. It was wonderful. I wish I could begin to articulate how amazing it feels to know that this boy is ours. That he belongs to our family and we get to be a part of his life. I knew 7 years ago that I would love him unconditionally and that being a mom was going to be great. But the kicker is, I love being his mom...even if I wasn't his mom, he's the type of kid I would want to know.
Happy Birthday Jojo. We love you to the moon and back.
